Argo City - birthplace of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl; Argo city had a protective dome built around it. When Krypton exploded the city was launched into space by the explosion but the population survived thanks to the protective dome. Eventually harmful radiation began to kill the citizens of Argo City. Supergirl survived because her parents launched her from the city in a rocket which eventually made its way to Earth.
In the DC Animated Universe (DCAU) Argo was a planet in the same solar system as Krypton. Unlike Krypton it did not explode but it was knocked out of its orbit by Krypton's explosion. Argo City was a city on the planet Argo. Kryptonite does not affect Argoans.

General Zod - Leader of Krypton's space program. He was imprisoned in the Phantom Zone after he tried to seize power with an army of imperfect robot duplicates of himself. His original look in comic books was very different from that in the movie Superman II.
In the DCAU Zod was from Argo and therefore imune to the effects of Kryptonite.

Phantom Zone - Discovered by Jor-El and used as a prison for criminals, the Phantom Zone is another dimension where individuals have a ghost like appearance and can survive indefinitely. Ironically the criminals imprisoned in the Phantom Zone survived the destruction of Krypton. The usual method for traveling to and from the Phantom Zone is the Phantom Zone Projector, a device invented by Jor-El.
Most of the criminals in the Phantom Zone bear a grudge against Superman because it was his father who discovered it.
